Next Foodie Group Meeting

Wow next week is our next meeting. We will be at the Queset House and it will be a pot luck, everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite finger foods to share and join in the games that are planned.

We will also be collecting food for the Easton food pantry, please only non-perishable items.

I love potlucks, it is such fun getting to try different types of foods.

Come and enjoy the conversation, games and food!

On Wednesday, December 1st we will be at the lovely Queset house for our meeting. It will be a pot luck party, so everyone can bring finger foods, snacks, or hors· d’oeuvres to share. You can bring your recipe to share if you would like.We will also have fun with food trivia, and some lovely prizes.

Queset house is next to the library to get to it you pull into the same drive as the library but go the right instead of the left.

I hope a lot of people come I love when I get to taste a variety of foods.

Hmm have to decide what I am bringing so many options,,,,,

Langwater Farm November 2010

Hi Everyone,

Just to let everyone know Langwater farm on Washington St (Rte 138) N Easton is open. They will remain opened until Christmas.

When I stopped in there earlier today, I found a variety of organic winter squashes, Butternut, Spaghetti, Red Kuri (?), Delicata, Acorn, and others.

They also had 6-7 different types of apples from an orchard in Stowe, MA . As well as organic carrots, beets, turnips, bok choy, parsnips and other items from their own farm and an organic farm in Vermont.

They are also currently taking orders for pies for Thanksgiving,,apple or pumpkin.

Their farm stand is open Tuesday through Friday from 12 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.

November 13, 2010, Noon to 4:00 p.m. (and throughout the Winter)-Indoor Farmer’s Market at Attleboro Farm & Garden, 491 Hickory Road, North Attleboro. Information indicates that this will be a large market with grass-fed beef; honey, produce from several farmers, bakers, etc.

November 22, 2010, 7:00 p.m. South Shore Locovores.

The South Shore Locavores will meet at Sampson Hall (popularly known as the Beal House) at 222 Main Street in Kingston, on Monday, November 22, at 7 p.m. Come at 6:45 to register, mingle, and get some refreshments before the program starts.

The 2nd poll was a both a little more general and a bit more specific asking more about shopping preferences for food at farmers markets and small local businesses or do you shop for food at just chain supermarkets or if you grow your own foods. . I was a little surprised at the results of this poll. 42% of us shop at all 3, while 21% of us try to shop at small local business whenever possible. 10% stick to the local farm stands and small businesses. 20% of our voters said they grew their own food. Then we had a general category of other that 10% chose.

We ran a couple of polls and would like to share the results with everyone. The first poll asked about planned shopping at farm stands and farmers markets. We asked everyone if they shopped at them twice a week or more and 20% of our voters do so. 30% shopped at them once a week. Nobody wanted the once a month vote. The whopping majority of us at 50% say that when they are out and see one they shop at them.

Gerrys Farm Stands Corn is in !

Hi I stopped at Gerry’s Farm stand in Brockton this morning. I bought some of their sugar snap peas. I was able to get just the amount I wanted which was only about a third of a pound. I like having them in as they are an easy and tasty snack.

I was also very happy to see they had some of their own corn available they have just started picking it. I love fresh corn. I just put it in to the boiling water for about 3 minutes, I like it to stay nice and crunchy.

They also had different types of lettuce and several squashes.

I was told in the next week or so they should have carrots and potatoes in.
